How We Invest
Community Foundation of Southwest Louisiana's investments are pooled with affiliates, the Baton Rouge Area Foundation and Northshore Community Foundation in Covington, LA.
Our goal is to grow the assets while making sure the capital is preserved for long-term giving. Money in our charitable funds is overseen by an Investment Subcommittee. John Hixon, CFP, is a seasoned financial planner based in Lake Charles and represents our Community Foundation on the subcommittee. It reviews the investments quarterly and positions the assets, with most of the money in stocks and bonds actively managed by Wall Street investment houses.
An appropriate portion of the donor portfolio is invested in venture capital funds, with a focus on providing capital to promising Louisiana businesses that can add jobs and grow in the state. More recently, the Investment Subcommittee has started moving into impact investing, where the returns include a social good.
